Since 2006, Buffalo Lumber & Tie, Fountain City, WI has been harvesting and processing timber from Central and Southern Wisconsin, Southeastern Minnesota, Northern Iowa and Northern Illinois. Buffalo's specialty is Northern Black Walnut. The Northern Black Walnut sawn by Buffalo Lumber & Tie is known around the world for its consistent color, tight grain, attractive small ingrown knots, and smaller sap content when compared to mid-continent Walnut from other areas of the United States.
At Buffalo we purchase large volumes of Northern Black Walnut, Red Oak, White Oak, Black Oak, Hard Maple, Soft Maple, Hickory, Black Cherry,White Ash, Basswood, and Yellow Birch sawlogs and veneer logs. At our mill state-of-the-art thin kerf sawing equipment is used to recover the maximum amount of lumber from each saw log. We also promote the best use of our timber resources through wide reaching programs that market each log into the market offering us the best return. By doing so this makes us one of the most competitive buyers of standing timber and logs in all the areas where we operate.
Our mill is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified under the Midwest Hardwood Corporation multi-site certification SW-COC-008. All our foresters and log buyers promote the use of sustainable forestry practices, as without healthy forests today AND tomorrow we will not continue to have the high quality resources we need for continued operations.
